Promote low-carbon transformation and global cooperation—the 2024 World New Energy Vehicle Conference is held

2024/11/6

(Reporter Xue Yan) In the first half of 2024, global new energy vehicle sales reached a new high, reaching 7.279 million units, of which China’s sales reached 4.944 million units, a year-on-year increase of 32%. From September 27th to 29th, the 2024 World New Energy Vehicle Conference was held in Haikou, Hainan. At the meeting, Wan Gang, chairman of the China Association for Science and Technology and chairman of the World New Energy Vehicle Conference, used a set of data to clearly explain that the current global new energy vehicles are showing a continued growth trend.
“Developing new energy vehicles is an important way to achieve carbon neutrality in the transportation sector.” Xin Guobin, Vice Minister of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, said that the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology will further strengthen technological innovation support, accelerate basic technologies such as key materials for power batteries, vehicle chips, and technical research on new system batteries, high-power long-life fuel cells, advanced hybrid engines and other components; establish and improve the automobile carbon emission standard system, study the gradual transformation of the existing automobile energy-saving and dual-point management policies to carbon emission management, and explore the establishment of a connection mechanism with the national carbon market.
From January to August this year, my country's new energy vehicle market penetration rate reached 35.2%. As a province in the country that has clearly proposed a "ban on the sale of fuel vehicles" in 2030, Hainan's new energy vehicle market penetration rate exceeds 50%, which is significantly higher than the national average.
Feng Fei, Secretary of the Hainan Provincial Party Committee, said that Hainan will further leverage its advantages, carry out in-depth large-scale equipment updates and vehicle trade-in operations, accelerate the elimination of old fuel vehicles, strive to create a national benchmark for the promotion and application of new energy vehicles, strive to be a demonstration of the global application of new energy intelligent connected vehicles, create a new highland for the integrated development of new energy vehicles and clean energy island version 2.0, and fully promote the accelerated development of Hainan's new energy vehicle industry.
“The global automotive industry must unswervingly promote the all-electric development of the automotive industry, continue to accelerate the hybrid transformation of traditional energy vehicles, and continue to strengthen collaborative breakthroughs in key technologies such as new power battery systems, new chassis and electronic and electrical architectures, and cross-domain integrated intelligent driving systems.” Wan Gang It was emphasized that electric vehicles are now becoming heavier and heavier, so lightweight development must be regarded as an important way to reduce vehicle energy consumption. At the same time, efforts must be made to promote the application of intelligent technology in the R&D and design, production and manufacturing, procurement and supply, operation management, and marketing services of new energy vehicles.

At present, as the electrification transformation of the global automobile industry continues to advance, the pain points, difficulties and congestion faced by various countries are becoming increasingly prominent. In Xin Guobin’s view, countries around the world must further strengthen their confidence in development and strengthen practical cooperation. It is necessary to promote cooperation in industrial technological innovation, give full play to respective advantages, and jointly carry out key technological research; it is necessary to strengthen cooperation on policies, regulations and standards, strengthen policy coordination and standard docking, promote the convergence of rules and mutual recognition of results in areas such as carbon footprint management and autonomous driving, and improve the level of trade and investment liberalization and facilitation; it is necessary to deepen cooperation in industrial chains and supply chains, further deepen detailed division of labor and collaboration, promote the smooth flow of resource elements, and jointly build a safe, stable, smooth and advanced, open and inclusive, mutually beneficial and win-win global industrial chain and supply chain system.
“The global automotive industry should continue to deepen exchanges and cooperation around green and low-carbon development, learn from each other’s experience in green, low-carbon, and sustainable development, and promote the integration of international trade and investment.” Wan Gang believes that the automotive industry in various countries must continue to strengthen its development and collaboration with energy, materials, transportation and other related industries in low-carbon transformation, and strive to promote low-carbon automotive energy supply, low-carbon material supply, low-carbon production processes, and low-carbon transportation, so as to achieve carbon neutrality in the entire industry chain and life chain cycle.

This conference, with the theme of "Low Carbon Transformation and Global Cooperation", is co-sponsored by the China Association for Science and Technology, the Hainan Provincial Government and the Ministry of Science and Technology. The conference also released the "2024 World New Energy Vehicle Conference Consensus" and the "2024 Global New Energy Vehicle Frontier and Innovative Technology" selection results.
